Steinbach Arts Council Launches Call for Artists in the 2025 Southeast Open Judged Exhibit

The Steinbach Arts Council announces the opening of applications for the 2025 Southeast Open Judged Exhibit (SOJE), inviting artists from across the region to showcase their talent. With submissions being accepted starting on November 14, 2024 until January 24, 2025, artists have ample time to prepare their best work for this prestigious event, scheduled to run from February 28 to March 28, 2025.

Camila Funes-Giesbrecht, Assistant Arts Instructor Coordinator expresses her excitement as she plans this exhibit, “SOJE is a remarkable platform that shines a spotlight on the creativity of the Southeast. Our mission is to foster an inclusive community where everyone—whether they are an experienced artist or a beginner with a love for art—can showcase their talent and be celebrated.”

This year, the council has implemented a streamlined submission process designed to accommodate a diverse range of participants. Individual artists can enter up to two pieces in either competitive or non-competitive categories. Adult participants will be charged a nominal fee of $10, while artists 17 and under can enter free of charge.

In an exciting development, the Steinbach Arts Council has introduced a separate application process for Art Educators from schools and institutions. This new initiative enables teachers to submit artwork on behalf of their students, fostering the next generation of creative talents in the Southeast region. “We’re thrilled to offer this new pathway for young artists,” Funes-Giesbrecht explains. “It’s a great chance for students to experience a professional art exhibit and gain recognition for their work.”

SOJE welcomes artists of all levels, from seasoned professionals to emerging talents, residing in the Southeast region. The exhibit aims to celebrate creativity in all its forms, providing a platform for artists to gain recognition and engage with the community.

Adult and young artists, and educators interested in participating can find full application details and submission forms at steinbacharts.ca/soje. SAC advises participants to review all guidelines and requirements before submitting applications.

The Hall Gallery, sponsored by Good N Natural, will be open to the public during the Steinbach Arts Council’s office hours. This year, visitors will enjoy an enhanced viewing experience in the newly expanded hall gallery, made possible with support from the Steinbach Community Foundation. This expansion allows for a broader range of artistic expressions to be displayed, from traditional mediums to contemporary forms.
