An exhibition by Kim Gwozdz, Swetlana Stang & Arlene Rattai

THE ARTIST

Swetlana Stang

Swetlana is a self-taught artist from Germany. She specializes in oil and acrylic landscape and still life paintings and has been part of the Southeast Artists Group for 10 years. She loves going camping with her family, and painting whenever she has the chance.

THE ARTIST

Kim Gwozdz

Kim Gwozdz has devoted over forty years to exploring the world of art, employing a diverse range of mediums to bring local landscapes, vibrant floral scenes, and wildlife to life. Her enduring connection with the Steinbach Arts Council is a testament to her dedication, having participated in numerous art exhibits, the Buy/Lease program, and the South East Artists Group.

In addition to showcasing her work, Kim has shared her expertise through teaching watercolor and acrylic classes. Kim’s work has been displayed and sold in local businesses, private collections across Canada, and internationally.

THE ARTIST

Arlene Rattai

As retirement approached, Arlene Rattai decided to take up painting, starting with porcelain. Over the years, Arlene explored watercolors and oils, but it was pastels that truly allowed her to capture animals in the way she had always envisioned.

Since beginning her painting journey in 1995, art has become an integral part of Arlene’s life. Her practice is constantly evolving, with each new piece inspiring and challenging her to explore new techniques and subjects.

I was born in Warsaw, a city with a vibrant culture and complex history; I received an art education in Poland and came to Canada as a young refugee in the aftermath of political strife in Europe. Arriving in Winnipeg, I was immediately facilitated by the diversity of its people and the richness of the cultural tapestry of my new home.

“Off the Wall” A Tribute Exhibit in Memory of Willi Richardson

Exhibit Dates: Mar 1 – Apr 5, 2024 | 📥 Artwork Information Willi’s artistic journey began at a young age, driven by a passion for creativity that led her to explore techniques not commonly used by traditional artists. Her resourcefulness shone through as she utilized graphite powder and shavings as paint, demonstrating a remarkable ability to adapt and create despite limited access to conventional art supplies during her teenage years. Having relocated from Morden to Steinbach in 2021, Willi found solace and community through her art, immersing herself in the welcoming artistic scene of her new home. Beyond her many contributions to The Steinbach Arts Council, she generously shared her knowledge and skills by offering private lessons in her cozy studio near Giroux. Willi’s dedication to nurturing young talent was exemplified through her creation and teaching of the ‘Skills 4 Life’ program, which garnered recognition from ‘The General Authority of Manitoba’. Her involvement with the Steinbach Arts Council, Pembina Hills Arts Council in Morden and the Winkler Arts and Culture Center demonstrated her commitment to enriching the arts community through workshops, art events, and fundraising initiatives that held a special place in her heart. Willi Richardson’s legacy as an artist, mentor and friend will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
