“Manitoba – My Love” By Wanda Slawik

Exhibit Dates: Mar 1 – Apr 5, 2024

I was born in Warsaw, a city with a vibrant culture and complex history; I received an art education in Poland and came to Canada as a young refugee in the aftermath of political strife in Europe. Arriving in Winnipeg, I was immediately facilitated by the diversity of its people and the richness of the cultural tapestry of my new home.

Exploring my surroundings and learning about the complex visual legacy of Winnipeg’s and other communities, I fell in love with the city on the Red River, and the province where I have now lived for over 40 years.

Here I have raised my family and forged my career in the arts and architecture, working for various architectural firms. I have helped create numerous art exhibitions for local arts organizations, including The Ogniwo, Polish Museum, Folklorama Festival Inc. and The Winnipeg Sketch Club.

I have also shown my works at several juried exhibitions at Warehouse Art Work Gallery, Fleet Gallery, Golden Prairie Art Center in Carman, Red River Exhibition, Gwen Fox Art Centre in Selkirk, Local Color Art Group and others. My works are now held in private collections in Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary and my native Poland.
