Fiddler on the Roof” Community Musical – Open Auditions

The Steinbach Arts Council is celebrating their 45th Anniversary year with a very special community musical homecoming! Fiddler on the Roof is an award-winning story of tradition that has touched audiences with its humour, warmth, and universal appeal for decades. Directed by David Klassen, Assistant Director Kristy Penner. Age Range: All ages are invited to audition for this multi-generational show. If you have questions about whether the roles available are right for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the contact information below.  Cast List: Rehearsal schedule: One weeknight per week plus weekends, beginning in November until show dates. Detailed schedule will be made available at auditions. Audition Dates: Auditions will take place at the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre, 304 Second St, on August 14, 15, 20, and 21 from 5pm to 9pm. If you would like to audition but cannot attend one of the scheduled audition dates, please contact our office. Auditionees will be asked to sing the selection provided ahead of time and read a portion of the script which will be made available at the audition. Steinbach Arts Council Announces Its 45th Anniversary Concert Season

The Steinbach Arts Council is excited to announce our 45th Anniversary concert season! The 2024-2025 Concert Series brings world class performances to our community, including a swingin’ good time with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, Stories of Refuge and classical guitar with the Orontes Guitarists, a symphonic Christmas with the WSO, community musical Fiddler on the Roof, and a musical mystery presented by Manitoba Theatre Centre. Tara Schellenberg, Performing Arts Coordinator at SAC, is eager to share this concert series with the community. “For 45 years, the Steinbach Arts Council has been bringing music and community together. We’ve really pulled out all the stops for our 45th Anniversary season, and I can’t wait to celebrate with our audience!” Season tickets are now on sale. KR Barkman Concerts in the Park – Free Outdoor Concerts Celebrate Community

The Steinbach Arts Council is pleased to announce that your favourite FREE outdoor concert series is back this summer. KR Barkman Concerts in the Park are for the whole family, featuring local performers across a variety of genres – classical, pop, folk, acapella, rock, and more! “This concert series is unlike any other at SAC,” says Tara Schellenberg, Performing Arts Coordinator. “We have a loyal audience that supports local artists in our community, and there’s no shortage of local talent willing to share their music. Bringing community together in the beautiful KR Barkman Park is a highlight each summer!” Everyone is encouraged to bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to the KR Barkman Park on Thursday, May 30th at 6:30pm for the first outdoor concert of 2024, and plan to enjoy the music through to June 13th. Desautels Trio Piano Concert

The Steinbach Arts Council is proud to present the Desautels Piano Trio in concert on Thursday, May 9th 2024. The Desautels Piano Trio is an all-star ensemble of professors from the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba: Oleg Pohkanovski on violin, Minna Rose Chung on cello, and Judith Kehler-Siebert on piano. These three brilliant musical minds will share their in-depth research while knocking your socks off with show-stopping virtuosity. This energetic program by powerhouse players will literally move you!

Buzz Brass quintent comes to Steinbach to perform at the Grace Mennonite Church

The Steinbach Arts Council is proud to announce the upcoming performance of internationally acclaimed Canadian brass quintet Buzz Brass, in concert on April 17th, 2024. Known for their ability to infuse classics with a fresh vibrancy, Buzz Brass reinterprets beloved compositions through trumpet, horn, and trombone. From timeless classical masterpieces to lively ragtime-era tunes and jazz, Buzz Brass’s repertoire truly offers something for everyone. For over two decades, Buzz Brass quintet has been travelling the globe to captivate classical music lovers. With over 1,600 appearances to its credit, this award-winning ensemble has reached more than 350,000 music lovers throughout North America, Europe and China and is featured among the most reputable brass quintets in Canada. Buzz Brass is brass at its best, delivered with intelligence, whimsy, and skill. Regional Manitoba Theatre Centre Regional Tour Comes to Steinbach

The Steinbach Arts Council is proud to present the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre Rural Tour’s production of Mix Tapes from my Mom. Cory Wojcik, a seasoned theater performer from Winnipeg, takes us on a journey through an extraordinary day in his life, accompanied by a live band. Along the way, he weaves in beloved songs from his mom’s cherished mix tapes, as well as a few of his own original compositions. This unique production combines the familiarity of well-known tunes with an incredible true story that is both challenging and awe-inspiring. Prepare to be captivated by this concert-meets-theatrical-experience. Mix Tapes From My Mom stars Cory Wojcik as Himself, Josh Bellan as Musician (Guitar)/Actor, Christy Taronno as Musician (Keys)/Actor. The creative team features Director Trish Cooper, Music Director Rusty Robot, Set Designer Daina Leitold, Tour Technical Director Josh Gehman, Tour Technician Jess Rose, Stage Manager Sadie Wannamaker and Apprentice Stage Manager Larissa Shabaga. Steinbach Arts Council Announces the Final Cast for Community Musical, Godspell

The Steinbach Arts Council is excited to announce the cast for Godspell, the community musical directed by Jeremy Plett and David Klassen this winter. The message of Godspell is one of community – people of all walks coming together to lift each other up, and help build an understanding of the power of goodness and love. “Auditions were held in December,” said David Klassen, Executive Director, “and the result is a remarkable cast! Jeremy and I am honoured to be leading this cast of talented individuals, especially considering their desire to give back to our community in this way! In fact, I believe that this is community at its best.” Godspell 2024 Cast List This show will also feature a live band, including Annalee Schellenberg on piano. Klassen says, “Working with a live ensemble when putting on a community musical production is an incredible opportunity for everyone involved. It makes us realize how lucky we are to have so many talented musicians in the area who can come together and give the community a really special experience.” Godspell takes place at the SRSS Theatre (190 McKenzie Ave) on Thursday to Saturday, February 29 – March 2, 2024, at 7:30 pm. Madame Diva & Micah Comes to Steinbach for a Wonderful Frenglish Performance

Prepare to be transported into a world of birch bark canoes, paddles, hairy adventures, and lots of laughter with Madame Diva and Micah the young voyageur! The Steinbach Arts Council invites families and children to Zing-e-Zing! on Friday, January 26th, 2024.    This performance is geared toward young audiences and fun for the whole family. Enjoy singing along and tapping your feet to the festive melodies of the fiddle, while listening to charming and playful stories of the voyageur era. Join the adventures of Madame Diva and Micah, and meet Perseverance, the tenacious little turtle, all while singing songs from yesteryear.   Performing Arts Coordinator Tara Schellenberg is excited to bring this family-friendly show to Steinbach. “This show is a wonderful way to bring our local French and English-speaking communities together. Whether you’re fluent in French or English, Madame Diva’s expert use of ‘Frenglish’ ensures that every member of the audience is included and engaged!”  Tara Schellenberg, Performing Arts Coordinator Madame Diva, personified by Jocelyne Baribeau, is a recipient of the prestigious Parents’ Choice Award in the United States. Since creating Madame Diva in 2009, Jocelyne Baribeau has received a number of award nominations including the Western Canadian Music Awards, the Gala des prix Trille Or, as well as the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Notas De 4 in Concert

The Steinbach Arts Council is proud to present Notas de 4 (“Notas de Quatro”) in concert February 1st, 2024. Calgary’s original Latin Jazz ensemble is sure to heat up the prairie winter with their original compositions inspired by flamenco, Latin folk, and traditional music from Cuba and Mexico. Performing Arts Coordinator Tara Schellenberg is looking forward to presenting this ensemble. “I had the pleasure of seeing these world class musicians perform last year, and was immediately captivated by their exceptional musicianship, genuine warmth, and inspiring passion.
